October 8, 2024The Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism (DNEA), housed at UD’s Center for Disabilities Studies, offers training and technical assistance that benefits individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who serve them. We are pleased to announce our statewide virtual training schedule designed to introduce participants to the core characteristics of autism and practices that provide support in a variety of settings.
Introduction to Evidence-Based Practices for Individuals with Autism will provide an overview of the evidence-based practices that are most effective when supporting individuals with autism of all ages. This training will review the core characteristics of autism and introduce three evidence-based practices: visual supports, prompting, and reinforcement.
This training is designed for all community members. For example this may include, but is not limited to, people with autism, their families, healthcare providers, first responders, direct support professionals, and early childhood professionals.
Participants will be emailed log-in information and training details approximately 48 hours before the training date. Please check the email you used to register and/or your JUNK mail if you do not find the confirmation in your inbox. Participants will be emailed a certificate of attendance approximately two weeks post training.
Seating is reserved for Delaware residents and Delaware professionals. The DNEA reserves the right to cancel training if the minimum threshold for attendance is not reached.

October 15, 2024The Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism (DNEA), housed at UD’s Center for Disabilities Studies, offers training and technical assistance that benefits individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who serve them. We are pleased to announce our statewide virtual training schedule designed to introduce participants to the core characteristics of autism and practices that provide support in a variety of professionals.
Understanding Mental Health Challenges Among People with IDD is intended for professionals working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who may need more context on the intersection of IDD and mental health. The training focuses on providing contextual information of IDD and mental health, including historical context; prevalence of mental health conditions among people with IDD; and challenges with mental health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment among the IDD population. Using a neurodiversity-affirming lens, it begins with a review of the core characteristics of IDD, discussing how IDD increases one’s susceptibility to experiencing mental health disorders, and progresses into tips for assessing mental health needs among members of the IDD population.
This training is designed for all community members. For example this may include, but is not limited to, people with autism, their families, healthcare providers, first responders, direct support professionals, and early childhood professionals.
“This course, Understanding Mental Health Challenges Among People with IDD, Approval # 9052024-2, provided by Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism is approved for continuing education by the NASW-DE Continuing Education Approval Collaborative. CE Approval Collaborative Approval Period: Thursday, September 5, 2024 through January 31, 2025. Delaware social workers will receive 2 CE credits for participating in this course.”

October 15, 2024New legislation (HB202) will require that all childcare centers engage in developmental screening using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ). The LTSAE training, Supporting Family-Led Developmental Monitoring, will help prepare you for this important change that is coming to Delaware.
This training will:
- introduce participants to the importance of developmental monitoring;
- provide an overview of the state’s developmental screener – the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ);
- explain the state’s process for referring children to early intervention services; and
- describe the types of early intervention services available to different ages of children.

October 17, 2024The Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism (DNEA), housed at the University of Delaware’s Center for Disabilities Studies, offers training and technical assistance that benefits individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who serve them.
While fall festivities can be fun and exciting, it can also be difficult for youth with autism and other developmental or intellectual disabilities. This workshop, presented to you by the DNEA, will review why the fall and its special events can be particularly challenging for children with disabilities and their families or caregivers. We also present strategies that can assist in preparing for special or new events while reducing stress and challenging behaviors.
This training is designed for all community members. This may include but is not limited to, people with autism, their families, healthcare providers, first responders, direct support professionals, and early childhood professionals.
This training will be held in-person at the Lewes Public Library: 111 Adams Ave, Lewes, DE 19958.
After the training concludes, participants are welcome to ask questions and interact with the shared resources. All participants will be provided with visual picture cards related to fall activities.

We are pleased to announce our statewide virtual training schedule designed to introduce participants to the core characteristics of autism and practices that provide support in a variety of settings.
This training was developed by the Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism for early childhood care providers. The training is designed to develop an understanding of autism and how it impacts children differently. In addition, the training provides strategies to support young children with autism in a childcare setting.
This training is designed for all community members. For example this may include, but is not limited to, people with autism, their families, healthcare providers, first responders, direct support professionals, and early childhood professionals.
Please note: There are two ways to attend the Understanding Autism and Strategies for Child Care Providers; please select one option:
1) Register through DIEEC to obtain Continuing Education Credits

Participants will learn about the four different types of visual supports - schedules, cues, boundaries, and timers - and evidence-based practices for introducing these supports to individuals with autism. We are pleased to announce our statewide virtual training schedule designed to introduce participants to the core characteristics of autism and practices that provide support in a variety of professionals.
Crisis Intervention - Supporting a Person with IDD in Crisis is intended for professionals working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who want to learn more about mental health crisis intervention for that population. The training focuses on how to identify a mental health crisis in someone with IDD, how to intervene during a mental health crisis in someone with IDD, and how to reduce the likelihood of future mental health crises in people with IDD from developing. Using a trauma-informed lens, it begins by overviewing IDD and providing context for mental health crises, then progresses into crisis intervention and contacting services. The training closes with tips for preventing future mental health crises, as well as mental health crisis resources for people with IDD.
This training is designed for all community members. For example this may include, but is not limited to, people with autism, their families, healthcare providers, first responders, direct support professionals, and early childhood professionals.
