November 30, 2022(1 event) 11:00 am: AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER AND MENTAL HEALTH – The Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism (DNEA), housed at UD’s Center for Disabilities Studies, offers training and technical assistance that benefits individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who serve them. We are pleased to announce our statewide virtual training schedule designed to introduce participants to the core characteristics of autism and practices that provide support in a variety of settings. DNEA Intermediate and Advanced Training Content is designed for individuals who have attended Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorder and Introduction to Evidence-Based Practices or have a similar foundational knowledge. These trainings are often discipline-specific and will address more advanced evidence-based practices and supports. Autism Spectrum Disorder and Mental Health will provide participants with an introductory understanding of autism spectrum disorder and commonly-occurring mental health diagnoses. Participants will review the core characteristics of autism; learn about prevalence and presentation, and be introduced to evidence-based resources that can be used to support individuals with autism who have co-occurring mental health needs. Participants should have a foundational understanding of autism and/or previously attended Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorder. This training will review the core characteristics of autism, the prevalence of frequently occurring mental health diagnoses, how core characteristics of autism increase an individual's susceptibility to mental health disorders, and the factors that influence co-morbid mental health disorders. Participants will be emailed log-in information and training details approximately 48 hours before the training date. Participants will be emailed a certificate of attendance approximately two weeks post training. Seating is reserved for Delaware residents and Delaware professionals. The DNEA reserves the right to cancel training if the minimum threshold for attendance is not reached. Please email Nicole Garrity at garrityn@udel.edu for any accommodation requests. December 14, 2022(1 event) 11:00 am: Supporting Your Child with Autism Spectrum Disorder During the Holiday Season – The Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism (DNEA), housed at UD’s Center for Disabilities Studies, offers training and technical assistance that benefits individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who serve them. We are pleased to announce our statewide virtual training schedule designed to introduce participants to the core characteristics of autism and practices that provide support in a variety of settings. While the holidays are a time of joy and celebration, they can also be difficult for youth with autism spectrum disorder, and other developmental or intellectual disabilities. This workshop, presented to you by the DNEA, will review why the holidays can be particularly challenging for children with disabilities and their families or caregivers, while presenting strategies that can assist in reducing holiday-related stress and challenging behaviors. This course is approved for continuing education by the NASW-DE Continuing Education Approval Collaborative. CE Approval Period is from March 1, 2022-January 31, 2023. Delaware social workers will receive 1.5 General CE credits for participating in this course.
