Understanding the differences and similarities between a medical diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and an educational classification of ASD is important. Each process involves an evaluation of your child’s strengths and areas of need and each may lead to different supports and services. Autism evaluations, for either a medical diagnosis or educational classification, should be conducted by a professional with knowledge in evaluating for autism.
The Delaware Department of Education and Center for Disabilities Studies developed an informative brochure to help parents and providers understand these important differences. Brochures are available to access, print, and distribute in eight different languages.
PDF versions of each language are available for download below.
